Daulton Batten

The Man of Two Hearts

“Some men are chosen by prophecy. Daulton was chosen by consequence.”

Who Is Daulton Batten?

Who Is Daulton Batten?

They call him The Bulldozer
not for brute strength, but for the relentless way he moves through a world that has tried, again and again, to bury him.

Daulton never sought a destiny bound to neither-light.
He never asked to raise a child marked by a force older than the Ebonunder itself.
But when Naddy fell into his arms, he did not hesitate.

He stood.
And once a man like Daulton stands, not even myth can make him bend.

Where immortals scheme and shadows whisper, Daulton remains devastatingly, stubbornly human—a truth that bruises the gods far more than any blade.

To meet him is to encounter the refusal of fate itself.

Origins & Burdens

Daulton was born into a family stitched together by grief and rumor, their name tangled in half-spoken tales of the Ebonunder.

He denies the truth of the lightmares that claw their way through his sister’s eyes of stolen light.
But the lightmares do not deny him.

There are beings that watch through the neither-light—
silent, patient, ancient.
They know who he is.
They know what burns in him.

They wait.

His Role in the Under Legend

  • To keep every monster where he can see it.
  • To hold the line between Nadriella and the things the world refuses to believe exist.
  • To be the human reminder that there is still power in a single mortal, a single heart, and a single unbreakable promise.

    Daulton is not immortal.
He has no curse, no blessing, no divine spark.

    And yet—
when the Under bends, he is the one who holds.

Traits

  • A wall of will, carved from instinct and fire
  • A temper buried deep, loyalty buried deeper
  • Loves the sky; trusts its open honesty
  • Greatest fear: to fail those he was never supposed to protect, yet protects anyway
  • Walks the world like a man carrying the weight of a prophecy he refuses to read

Relationships & Connections

Nadriella Batten
The one he will burn for, break for, and stand beside until his bones turn to dust.
He is her shield, her anchor, her impossible salvation.

Legion
A creature of myth reflecting everything Daulton is not—
and everything he might become if choice were stripped away.
A threat, a challenge, a mirror.

Trayden Biggs
The friend who keeps him steady.
The only person who can drag him back from the edges he walks too often.

Hidden Lore

  • The archers of Ravenwood once followed a Listener — a soul who could hear beyond the boundaries of creation.
    Her death ended that age.

Whispers now speak of a new Listener rising.

    Daulton knows the truth.
He will not speak her name.
    Not anymore.

Whispers Beyond the Veil

“They say the Batten boy once stood in a doorway the under-realms themselves wanted.
He did not move.
The door did.”
